I’m a forty-something Welshman living in Cape Town and I love to write. I’ve had a story published and everything. And someone other than my mum bought it. So there.
Trouble is, I like to write about a lot of different things. This can be very confusing when someone reads a post about running and then finds me writing a dystopian flash fiction story. It’s equally confusing when I write about parenting and follow it up with a rant about online shopping.
Simply put, I just write what comes to mind. So if you’re happy with an eclectic mishmash of work then you’re in the right place.
Being the kind and generous soul I am I’ve tried to at least break things into categories* to help you navigate.
If it’s stories you’re after go to the Storyteller. Go figure.
Want to know what popped into my head? Check out the Random Thinker (this is also where I dump anything running related because I’m too lazy to give it its own category).
Occasionally I am struck by a writing related nugget of wisdom whereupon I first staunch the bleeding and then add it to my Aspiring Writer files.
I’m also a proud Failing Parent and will gladly share my woes with you.
There’s also a Links page where you can find…errm…links and stuff.
I hope you find lots to enjoy. I love comments so don’t be shy. And I’m really keen to see if the contact form below works so please give it a spin*

WARNING: All categories will contain poorly conceived Haiku, swearing and overuse of ellipses…
Hello Nik! Piyali here. 😀 I’m so glad to discover you’re following my blog. I look forward to discovering more of your writing here. Cheers and best, Piyali.

Hi Piyali – thanks for stopping by! I’m gradually going to start moving things from my blogger account and become more active on this one. I seem to spend a lot more time reading, commenting and talking about writing at the moment but hopefully there will be some activity soon 🙂

“If you’ve happened upon this place looking for wisdom, insight and calm then you probably won’t be around much longer. On the site I mean…” – Great joke! Good place for it too. Will follow the banging Welsh bloke in South Africa!

And it will be a pleasure to have you on board good Sir! I’ve got a couple of hundred blog posts on previous incarnations so I’m gradually moving my favourites across. Might stop the whole “publicise to FB” thing. Or maybe not…mwahahaha…

If I could be so bold (nope, doesn’t allow bold on this typeface) that you seem to write in a similar style to me. Though, please don’t take that as an insult – I put myself on a very high pedestal.
What I’m getting at is I like the cut of your typed-jib.

Hi Shannon – great to have you around! Really pleased you are keen to follow my ramblings – and I’m extra-thrilled for that line to be picked out because I completely rewrote my About page yesterday so that line is hot off the press! I’m keen to check out your work so don’t be surprised to see me poking around on your site later today 🙂 Cheers, Nik

Apparently I’m just now nosy enough to figure out where you’re from. 🙂

It’s all lies. I’m actually a three-legged, short-haired, long-tailed badger living on the outskirts of Marrakech.
Glad you were feeling nosy – my “About” page hasn’t seen any action in almost exactly a year 🙂

Wow, you use the computer remarkably well for a badger. Perhaps your About page needs a new cologne or shirt, so to get some more action… 😉

It’s why I’m in hiding – the whole opposable thumbs thing has made me a marked omnivore.
Tell you what, I’ll give it a few days to see if your presence livens the page up a bit and sets off a flurry of activity – if not it’s a new shirt and an upgrade to a page compatible with a scratch and sniff browser. Deal?

Found you via aspascoe.com, and glad I did. I enjoy how eclectic your writing is and tend to go that way myself (too contrary or too ADHD to stick to a single genre). I’ll definitely be back to read more.

Hi J.S. – thanks for stopping by! Glad my writing appeals to you and I appreciate you taking the time to not only read but to comment as well. Looking forward to returning the favour and taking a look at your work

I wrote a comment before this one. When I hit the “post comment” button I found out I lost the internet connection. It was a long drawn out comment about how much I love getting lost in your blog. Anyway.. I will come here often. Connection. Surprising result of blogging I never expected. I’m inebriated with the aroma of your thoughts. Dizzy and so pleased. Thanks for sharing your world. Kudos!

So pleased that you’ve enjoyed your visit and will look forward to seeing you around the site. It’s such a bonus for me when someone not only reads something but takes the time to comment (and to re-comment when the internet gremlins do their best to ruin it!) – makes it all worthwhile. Looking forward to checking out your own work later today 🙂
